Yes, you must call 811 before digging, regardless of the depth of the project. 811 is a FREE service that connects you with a representative from your state's 811 center, who will ask for details about your project. The representative will then contact companies with underground lines in your area, who will mark the locations of their lines to your meter. Anything beyond your meter is a private utility and not located by 811. Norcal Utility Pros takes over where 811 stops! 811 marks "public utilities" NorCal utility Pros marks "Private Utilities" the public side goes to the first meter on the property and or in some cases back side of the sidewalk. We go from the meter onto your property and mark the Private Utilities
